“Watching Sally Ride become the first American woman in space when I was 13 made me think for the first time that my dreams might come true and my interest in spaceflight only grew from that point. I pleaded for an opportunity to attend Space Camp, and when I was lucky enough to go, for the first time met other girls like me who loved spaceflight. Meeting these other girls, and dreaming together that we might one day be like Sally Ride, was a defining moment. The validation we gave each other, and which she gave us, was priceless.”
